Dear Fellow Thespian Educators,

The St. Andrews Student Spotlight Drama Festival (SASS) is a daylong drama workshop and competition for Primary students in Years 4-6 taking place on Saturday, March 24, 2012.  The goal of this event is two-fold:  to heighten awareness and interest in theater education and to highlight student excellence in this curricular area.

Participation in this event allows students and teachers to utilize their talents and challenge themselves to integrate the performing arts into a hands-on learning experience that will stimulate imaginations and encourage the skillful art of risk-taking.

“The theater, which is in no thing, but makes use of everything – gestures, sounds, words, screams, light, darkness – rediscovers itself at precisely the point where the mind requires a language to express its manifestations.  To break through language in order to touch life is to create or recreate the theater.”  -Antonin Artaud

This quote illustrates not only the interdependence of humankind and the theater, but also points out the value of drama as a lifelong lesson and skill.  As the Bard himself assesses… indeed, “all the world’s a stage and all the men and women merely players.”  Therefore, let us ‘play on’ and encourage the youth of our future to do the same!  My hope is that this worthwhile event will help raise the public profile of drama education in Thailand International Schools.
